I only tried to use it on the planets!

The 400mm prime is great enough in terms of quality for deep sky imaging. Unless the Megrez is way cheaper, I don't see any reason to choose it over the 400mm prime.Oldfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03795500239305577247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10431517.post-46484255929748261052010-03-31T23:55:23.651+08:002010-03-31T23:55:23.651+08:00DO you like your 100-400mm IS lens? I would like to ask you regarding your experience of using your Canon 100-400mm f/5.6 IS zoom on deep sky astrophotography. Hows the CA, negligible? Im having a hard time deciding the buy my first L series lens for general use and astrophotography. Im deciding whether it is a good choice on the 100-400mm on deep sky objects as I have ordered a Sky Memo for my portable use and of course lugging along the TV-101 refractor will not be portable :( I finalizing on the following- Canon EF 400mm F/5.6 prime lens, Canon 100-400mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom and William Optics Megrez 72FD. But since I want to have a universal but good quality lens. Think I will be making a right decision getting the EF 100-400mm f/5.6 L with my 500D? I bought the Sky Memo also bec Im starting to invest on a portable setup for me to bring along to Australia 2012 eclipse as well as image the southern skies there. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

James Kevin Ty
Astronomical League of the Philippines, Inc (ALP)
Manila , Philippines
14.6 N , 121 E
Email: jkty@astroleaguephils.org
ALP Official Homepage: http://www.astroleaguephils. org
Kevin's Astro Photo Gallery Page: http://www.astrophotophils.com
Kevin's Astro Photo Blog Site: http://www.astrophotophils.blogspot.comTV-101https://www.blogger.com/profile/16580124460698502566noreply@blogger.com
